H&MT Wire Gauze Packing is a fabric woven from fine-diameter wire. The H&MT Wire
Gauze Packing is the preferred packing in distillation service for vacuum and low liquid
rate applications. Low pressure drop per theoretical stage makes wire gauze packing the

preferred device for processing specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals and temperature
sensitive materials. Generally, it is used in small to medium diameter columns to
achieve maximum number of theoretical stages in minimum column height. Three types
of H&MT Wire Gauze Packing are available: HMT-AX, HMT-BX and HMT-CY.

H&MT Corrugated Structured Packing are fabricated from thin, corrugated (crimped)
metal sheets, arranged in parallel to each other. Surface of the corrugated sheets can be
grooved, lanced, textured or smooth. The corrugated sheets are perforated and usually
assembled into an element 8 to 12 inch tall.

The “Y” designated packings have a nominal inclination angle of 45deg, widely used in
new installations. The “X” designated packings have a nominal inclination angle of 60deg
from horizontal and are used where high capacity and low pressure drop are the
foremost requirements for a specific application. The “X” packings provide a lower
pressure drop per theoretical stage compared to the same size “Y” packings.
